"the haircut"

Once upon a time there were two beautiful sweet girls who lived in Texas. One cool day in January, while their mother was slaving in the kitchen to cook them some supper, they decided to do something very naughty.  They were playing with some scissors in their bedroom and decided to cut each other's hair and their own hair...oh, and the hair of a few Barbie dolls. Their father was out of town on a business trip and when the youngest one came running to tell her mother what they had done...the oldest pleaded for her to stop!  But there was no hiding their secret.  Many inches of  their golden locks had been cut off. It looked TERRIBLE.  Their mother was very mad at first but then began to cry. The youngest girl, Natalie, had NEVER had a haircut. Ever!  She had JUST turned 3 years old and her mother was working up the courage to get her a real hair cut.  It was almost long enough.  But now it had been butchered...in places it was only a 1/4 of an inch long.  The oldest, Hannah, cut 4-6 inches off of the front of her hair. Nothing a cute bob couldn't fix. But Natalie, poor Natalie.  Thank goodness for her sweet curls which helped it look a little better.

Guilty as charged...these are the faces of the cutest criminals you will ever lay your eyes on.

This is only some of the hair from their "hack job".  I thought I had cleaned up all of the hair on the night of  the incident but always wondered because it didn't seem like enough hair for the damage that had been done. Sure enough, Hannah confessed to me about 6 weeks later that they had hid a pile of the hair under their dresser so I wouldn't find it.  Sigh.  I didn't know that deceit would start this early...
