Cold Turkey

Ever since her birth, we have always swaddled Natalie for naps and bedtime. She goes to sleep pretty easily. As long as she was swaddled and had her pacifier her eyes would just get heavy and she would fall right asleep. So I've been thinking for about 2 months now that it is high time we stop swaddling. She must be old enough by now to sleep without being swaddled! BUT since she has never slept through the night...I hated to change something and mess up her chances. A few weeks ago she got this terrible cold and then ear infection and ever since then has been sleeping shorter and shorter stretches at night. I finally kept track the other night. I was up with her 6 times between 8pm and 7am. Ridiculous! So....she is healthy right now....and I decided last night that she couldn't possibly wake up ANY more than she currently does at night...so we might as well just try putting her down without swaddling her. I think she was up 2 or 3 times. I'm not sure cause I was up with Hannah too (she was sick) and I tend to lose track after 2 times...BUT it was BETTER than the previous 4 nights! Today she took marvelous naps without the swaddling blanket! Hooray!!! I guess we'll see how tonight goes. She is definitely a "tummy sleeper" so far and likes to bury her face in something. This is how I found her during a nap today.

Aw! What a sweet picture. :) I'm glad she's sleeping better for you--hope she keeps it up!
