Uppers!

Uppers is a fun tradition that I played on Easter Sunday every year growing up. We always played" Uppers" just before eating our Easter feast! Each person has a dyed hard-boiled egg at their place setting. As a kid, I always LOVED helping to decorate the eggs! We most often used crayons on the eggs to personalize and decorate them and then we dyed them all different colors.

The game is played like this...each person holds an egg in their fist with one end sticking out of the top of their hand. Your neighbor or anyone at the table, can hit your egg with his egg or you can hit theirs. If one of the ends of your egg is cracked...flip it around and you remain "in the game" until both ends are smashed. The winner is the last person at the table with at least one "good end" on their egg! Often, the winner has an egg with two good ends. As a kid, I remember being teased that I must've slipped a wooden egg onto the table if I won. (I always thought that was funny.) It is a lot of fun to play if you have a large crowd for Easter dinner. Growing up, we often had a dozen or more people. This is a tradition that obviously does not celebrate the true meaning of Easter but is just a fun, silly part of the fesitivies....
We played it this year but only had 5 adults and 3 toddlers at our Easter dinner. Honestly, the toddlers didn't get it...oh well, maybe next year! Hannah did help me decorate and dye the eggs! And she LOVED that part!
