Paci-Free?!?

For the last two days Hannah has gone to bed without her pacifier at night and for naps! Woo-hoo! How did this miraculous event occur? Well, honestly we had been losing her favorite brand of pacifier left and right until only one remained. It was sadly chewed by Hannah and not exactly soothing with large holes in it. She has one other pacifier that opens and closes but it is definitely not her paci of choice. So over the last month with these two lame pacifiers remaining...she has used it less and less. It certainly helped that a few months ago she became extremely attached to a certain stuffed elephant which goes to bed with her each night. She couldn't have timed it better! Choosing a new 'comfort object' just months before I wanted to take her pacifier away. (My goal was to get rid of it by 18 months) So, it seems that her elephant has become more important to her than her paci! If you could have seen this girl sucking away 4 months ago...you never would've imagined she would give it up so easily.

This is Paul's attempt at documenting the melting pacifier in the campfire.

While we were camping with my family last week in Connecticut (pics to come) Paul declared the chewed (but favored) pacifier "unsanitary" and "unfit for use." He promptly took Hannah to the campfire and burned it. Yes, indeed! That, I think is a guy's way of doing things....Me? I would have thrown a party and tied it to balloons like some of my friends have done with their children. Anyway...if you do happen to see Hannah with a plug in her mouth...it is only because we haven't hidden the final pacifier. She doesn't particularly care for it...and well...it is in her toy box and she may never find it.....but if she does...I won't forbid her from popping it into her mouth. I'm just relieved that she kind of gave it up on her own...no big fights! We have enough of those already!
