OK...so last night we had dinner with Laurel & Tim Harris and Julie & Steve Hurtle. Since many of you reading this don't know either couple...or maybe you know just one...here is the story.
Laurel was one of my roommates at Houghton College my freshman year. (Houghton is in western New York state). I think Laurel would agree with me in saying we got along well...but both hung out with different circles of friends throughout our time at Houghton despite the fact that we were both music education majors. We were friends at school but didn't keep in contact after that. So last night I saw Laurel for the first time since our college graduation in May 2000! We found each other on facebook about a year ago. I LOVE facebook for that! Laurel grew up in NY and I grew up in PA and we found out that we were both living in TX! How wild! To be honest, for those of us that didn't grow up in TX....we NEVER imagined ourselves living here. But like me, Laurel met a wonderful guy and followed him here. Laurel and her husband currently live in Copperas Cove, TX (not too far from Killeen, TX).
OK...so then this past summer, a wonderful couple, the Hurtles, moved to San Antonio. They were good friends of Luke & Gigi Leppla and joined our small group. Paul and I have had the privilege of getting to know Julie and Steve over the last few months. (Just a side note....Julie and I were both named "Julia" at birth...but have both been called "Julie" and "Julia" by different groups of people at different points in our lives....I thought that was kinda cool) Well, we found out that Julie & Steve happened to know Laurel & Tim really well because they were all a part of the same small group in the Killeen area.
So, when Laurel told me that she and her husband were coming to San Antonio for a second honeymoon...we were super excited to get together. It was a blast having everyone over for dinner, getting to meet Tim for the first time and to reminisce with Laurel about good ol' Houghton days.
